Song Title: Paper Lanterns
The song “Paper Lantern” was written as an assignment in the BMI Musical Theatre Workshop. It was written for the character, “Blanche DuBois,” an aging former ingenue. The scene is from Streetcar Named Desire. At this particular moment in the story, Blanche is clinging to her memories of life at Belle Reve, and her faded youth – both kept alive by the illusion afforded by the diffusion of light through a cheap paper lantern she purchased on Bourbon Street.
